"How should a Christian respond to beggars?"?

If they ask, and I have the means with me, I give them enough for food. Some Christians in the past suggested you buy them food so that you're not inadvertently supporting a drug or alcohol habit, but I tried that once and it demeaned the person, so never again - I just give what I can and its their choice to do good or evil with it, same as everyone else
